The City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Sanitation, in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, operates a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program that provides a means for private residents to safely and legally dispose of their own unwanted household chemicals.


All Los Angeles County residents can bring their HHW, free of charge, to the City’s “Hazmobile” collection sites.

The Process
Residents may bring the following items to the Hazmobile collection site:

  • Household cleaning products
  • Paint and paint-related substances
  • Automotive products such as oil, antifreeze, brake fluid and transmission fluid
  • Pool chemicals
  • Garden chemicals including fertilizers, weed killers, pesticides
  • Batteries, including automotive, nickel cadmium,alkaline, lithium
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
